After years of Deregulation: Who’s been guarding the hen house!?
Tell me why we should bailout the thieves who under the cover of deregulation darkness have been feasting on our nest eggs? The Bush/Cheney Administration has the nerve to tell us that tax payers are going to be responsible for clearing the mess after decades of Republican HOGWASH arguing the virtues of Supply-Side-Economics and the “Trickle-Down Theory”. Didn’t anyone learn anything from S&L Crisis that occurred during the Reagan Era?
The logic behind the Republican deregulation scam was that if you motivate human nature with the stimulation of the unrestrained freedom to prosper in a free market then everyone profits. However, no one bothered to factor in another obvious aspect of human nature, greed, and uncontrolled greed is responsible for this eclipse in ethical judgment.
I’m not saying we should raise taxes on the RICH, but we should expect them to pay their fair share of taxes. We should stop bailouts for companies suffering from self inflected wounds. We should also stop handing out Corporate Welfare

Yes, I agree with what your saying. Not to be trite about it but the fox has been guarding the hen house. Bailouts is not a popular remedy for the reasons that you have given. The alternative may be much worse if we are to believe the financial analysts on television.
I believe that Democrats should share the blame with the Republicans to a certain degree. The Democrats wanted to see more lower income families (who often vote Democratic when they do vote) get into homes. I wonder if they looked the other way as to the low qualification standard in order to see them move into a home. The US senate rules make it difficult for a majority party to ram through unpopular legislation. I don’t see Democrats as being innocent in this whole process of deregulation.
George Bush should get the lion’s share of the blame but what were the Democrats doing in all of this – asleep at the switch?
