any certain kind of chickens best for laying eggs, and easy to care for, im in jonesboro ark.?

We just thought we would get a few partly for the fun of it and yeah the eggs too. Seems some dont lay well or takes a long time. We are guessing 10 laying hens and gettig about 7 eggs a day. About right? Though about some to eat too. They are called "fryers? Guess we need a rooster too? An email would be good from anyone that could tell us more about what we might need to do and expect. Thanks.

    I like Rhode Island Reds. They are good eating and prolific layers. Three hens should more than satisfy your needs.
